The Cahaba River in Alabama is one of the most diverse places in North America. It supports more species per mile than any river its size in North America. Like the neighboring river, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and its healthcare cost containment subsidiary, Cahaba Safeguard, have had their share of diverse experience. Very few organizations today have the benefit of such a rich and comprehensive body of accumulated healthcare information and knowledge.

This “Cahaba Experience” is a product of our deep understanding of the way healthcare services are funded, delivered and financed by public and private organizations. It encompasses all of the proficiencies, processes and technology developed over 35 years of working in the Medicare program. As a Program Safeguard Contractor (PSC) for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Cahaba Safeguard has worked to protect the nation’s healthcare trust fund from vulnerabilities. Cahaba Safeguard has gained valuable organizational experience by working with multiple terabytes of healthcare data from all 50 states.
